Purchasing a home will probably be the largest investment that anyone will ever make in his or her lifetime. Hale Mahaolu’s Homeownership Counseling Program, recognized by HUD, provides free individual counseling to homeowners who are faced with mortgage delinquency or default for various reasons.
Our Homebuyer Education Class helps the Homebuyer to understand the ins and outs of the home buying process.

About the Corporation
Hale Mahaolu is a private non-profit Housing Corporation established in 1967. Our mission is to provide quality housing and support services for individuals and families. Since 1989, Hale Mahaolu has been a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency servicing the entire state of Hawaii. Most of the services provided through the Homeownership/Housing Counseling Program are at no cost to the participants. Funding for the program is made possible at times by grants from various sources that include:
- U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development
- U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development
- Hale Mahaolu
- County of Maui
- Lending institutions
A key component in effectively resolving many homeownership issues is active client participation. As a good faith effort in exchange for receiving services at no cost, clients must take an active role in resolving their homeownership issues; this in turn will lead them to successfully achieving many of their goals.
